Riverlea Masjid Renovation Project: This Project Allhumdullillah has been completed.

Salaams dear brother and sister in Islam,

I have received a letter requesting urgent help and assisting a masjid in South of Johannesburg serving underprivileged communities for last 40 years. The current situation is very sad and it is an indictment on Muslim community which so rich and affluent and within 5 kms Muslim community recently have put up a masjid for 55 million Rand which is Allhumdullilah but the disparity in community make no sense to be so lavish and then we have a situation in negigbourhood so bad, of course it is not the only responsibility of the immediate neigbours but for the entire Muslim ummah of South Africa especially the Muslim community of Joburg, I write to you with appeal for urgent help, please the extract from original letter of request and the situation is been verified by Jamait ul Ullooma,

  1. The masjid is serving the community for last 40 years.

  2. The unemployment rate in the immediate community is 90 %.

  3. Masjids have over 100 students registered at madressah, due to the economic situation the madressah attending kids only source of food is what they get at the masjid madressah.

  4. The madressah have six grades and only 3 rooms to cramped 100 students in it, there is a only one toilet for their use and six taps for wuduh but only two are operational.

  5. The kitchen to cook food for kids in dire need of upgrade as health and hygiene issues are concerning.

  6. The veranda roof  where kids eat their supper is leaking need repair.

  7. Masjid roof is also leaking and due to constant rain the water dripping on carpet have created a unbearable smell in masjids, need urgent repairs.

  8. Masjid waduh khana need re-tiling and plumbing.

  9. Ladies section cater for 40-50 mastoorats during jumah salah have not ablution facility for them.

  10. Masjid window are rusted and glasses are broken which result in cold winds during winter time.

  11. Masjid outside walls are falling apart and that creates a security risk.

  12. The mayit ghusal khana need revamp as it serves for burial services for three communities in neighborhood, masjid pay for burial services as the community is very poor.

  13. Masjid jumah collection never more than R100 only.

  14. The direct debit order from greater Muslim community is around R 1000 per month.

  15. Masjid employed six staff, Imaam, Mauzzin, and  four ustads and total salary bill is R24,000 per month.

  16. Recently rates gone up from city council from R2000 to R8000 per month.

  17. The electricity pre-paid bill is R2000 per month.

  18. Trustees and community prepare to meet and share all documents and income and expenditure statements if anyone wishes to visit and help.

Dear brother and sister it is an indictment on a such a rich community to have a masjid in this state within out city. This is the community need our help and there is a great oppoutunity of dawaah work in this community. Please ummati instead of hanging Italian murano crystal chandelier we should serious go out there in full force and assist these masjids.

We are calling all Muslim community of Johannesburg to consider the following,

  1. A masjid in affluent area adopt this masjid.

  2. The said masjid staff or madressah can be adopted by a person, family or business.

  3. Any individual wanted to help on monthly bases please contact me I will furnish their banking details for once off assistance or a monthly debit order.

  4. All the items listed above for revamp or repairs can be sponsored by individual, families, communities or business.

It is painful to know while some of the masjids in affluent area do jumah collection of over R20 000 and this masjids fail to collect on jumah over R100 is a matter of great concern. I am sure there is no lack of kindness or generosity in our community but definitely a lack of awareness, but now the awareness is being created then now it is our responsibility to assist.

I hope and pray that this appeal will not fall on deaf ear and our generous community will take this call seriously and will come to assist in number.

Thanking you in advance for your kind cooperation.
